On September 17, I visited Harbour City in Tsim Sha Tsui. Harbour City is the largest mall in Hong Kong. Harbour City has five main shopping areas, the main one I went to was Gateway Arcade, as soon as I entered the mall I could hear the background music the mall was very soft and quiet and was an orchestral piece. I observed four stores, Crocs, Nike, and City Super, each of which will be analyzed separately in this blog. Also, on September 18, I visited two supermarkets, Wellcome and Taste, and the analysis of these two supermarkets will also be shown in this blog.


1.Nike

Nike is a sports brand in the United States. The music played in the store sounded like the music people listen to when they are doing sports, it sounded dynamic and felt powerful. At that time in the store, I recognized a song from Dua Lipa 'Not my problem' on my phone and heard the same feeling as I mentioned earlier. So I asked the salesperson what song list was usually played in the store. Unfortunately, the sales told me that the music came from a music box, given by the company headquarters, and they didn't know what the song list was and what songs would be played.






2. Crocs

Crocs is an American brand that sells sports and casual shoes. Their speakers are built into the ceiling overhead, and I observed that there were no more than two speakers in the store, but the volume was so loud that even at the entrance of this store, you could hear it very clearly. At the same time, the type of music played is pop music and is also very dynamic, rhythmic songs.





3. C! ty'super

City Super is a large department store, selling mostly high-end, foreign-imported goods. There are three main areas inside the supermarket, and the area I observed was the food department. The speakers are located on the ceiling above the head, and the music played while I was recording the video was light and bright, which made the customers feel very happy while shopping in the supermarket.





4. Welcome

This Wellcome I observed is near my house and most of the time the music I heard had a very strong basic beat and sounded very rhythmic. Once I heard a pop music melody in Wellcome, it was 'Location' by Ariana Grande, which surprised me a lot, which is very different from other supermarkets, where playing pop music is very rare. Meanwhile, Wellcome always plays a piece of music with lyrics (the music played in the video). The volume of the music is also louder than in other supermarkets, and no matter where you stand in the supermarket, you can hear the very strong basic rhythm of the music even though you can't hear the melody very well.




5. Taste

Taste is a supermarket that is the same type as Wellcome. The type of music played in their house is the same as a normal supermarket, giving a soft and quiet feeling or bright, making people feel very relaxed. The speakers have the same appearance as "Welcome", but the volume is much lower, and you can only hear the music clearly if you stand under the stereo. When I recorded the video, the supermarket was playing a melody like jazz, making people feel relaxed and happy to stay in this environment, which even makes people want to stay in this supermarket for more time.
