MUSI3041 Assignment#1——YANG Sha
On September 18, I visited the International Finance Center shopping Mall in Central. The sound environment of IFC Mall is set up in the manner of typical shopping centers and large commercial enterprises. After my observation, I found that there are four floors in Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the International Finance Center, and the sound system of the mall is placed on the ceiling of the sidewalk in the public space of each floor. The music seems to be different from issue to issue and layer to layer. It's not so loud that you might not notice the difference without listening carefully. Besides, the music is different from stores.
The sound system in the public area of the mall is placed on the ceiling, perhaps to create a better resonance. There is a sound system every few meters. During my stay and observation, the background music here is pure music. For example, on the third floor, which is usually the area selling fashion clothes and cosmetics, a light jazz that sounds more elegant and soft was played. Since I had never heard it before and the video I recorded was noisy, the music software could not recognize it, so I did not know the name of the song.
Different from stores and businesses in public areas, they play a variety of music styles. For example, I went to Zara, which features English songs with strong rhythm, while Brandy Melville, which is more suitable for girls' clothes, plays pop English songs like Running Down A Dream that sound more suitable for young people.
It is worth mentioning that there are three floors in the Apple store in IFC Mall, and there is a spiral staircase connecting the first and second floors. When I was on the first floor, I could only hear very quiet music. I went up the spiral staircase to the second floor, and found relatively loud stereo in the ceiling near the landing. I think the one placed in the center is the biggest stereo in the store, and the small stereo around it is used to resonate with it. As far as I know, Apple promotes Apple Music, and its Music ads are also launched worldwide. The Music in Apple Store is naturally selected and played according to the daily recommendations of Apple Musicdd, and most of them are unpopular but eye-catching songs, such as the classic Yael Naim's New Soul. In a word, a successful company has a unique style of music that people know when they hear it.
Besides that, I also went to Wellcome and Wanning. Supermarket chains like Wellcome and Wanning like to play their own hits on a loop, as do the videos shown in class. But what was different was that I noticed the background music in Wellcome this time. Usually I came here just for shopping, so I hardly noticed the music. The Wellcome stereo was still placed on the ceiling, usually around the corner, perhaps for better broadcasting, so that the whole supermarket would echo. And the most interesting is that Wellcome used the German band Dschinghis Khan's song of the same name to fill in the lyrics, adapted a Cantonese singing jingle, very brainwashing.
Music is everywhere, but it takes listening!
