Class Assignment #2: Sound Map
Follow the sound to travel

The subject matter I chose was a concert that was mainly about promoting Chinese music therapy with Chinese instruments as the main playing style. I used a recording device: iPhone13pm. The sound recorded the music styles heard in the subway on the way there, and when I heard the contrast of these different music styles, it made me feel such a perfect musical atmosphere in the city of Hong Kong, where I could not only hear the music styles of different countries but also see this different concert format for the first time, this The concert was held in the Wong Tai Sin community of Hong Kong on October 9th at 2pm. The entire concert was intended to be a music therapy session using Chinese instruments to play classical songs from different countries. The main selection for the concert was based on a few of the most popular places that people travel to in Hong Kong.
First location
I left the house at 12:30 pm on October 9, and because I was taking the MTR, I needed to change to another MTR line at Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station. I heard a jazz-style sound in the aisle of the changeover, and I don't know if it was because of the weekend, or maybe it was because I had never paid attention to the sounds coming from the MTR station when I had been here before, but at this point, the sound caught me. There are some stores around this interchange subway, so maybe jazz music can make people feel more relaxed and happy.
This concert was chosen based on the ranking of Hong Kong people's favorite travel destinations to visit. Throughout the concert, the hosts are involved in the narration. The concert was attended by people of all ages, with the elderly taking up the majority and there would be parents of children who brought their own children. First, the host introduces the background of each piece, as well as the instruments and players playing the music. In the second half of the concert, the host will ask the audience to close their eyes and feel the music of different countries, as well as imitate the music therapy scene with oral narration, making the audience feel very relaxed.
After the concert, I still changed to the MTR line in Tsim Sha Tsui, but this time the music had changed from the jazz style to the new electronic music style. Perhaps it was the end of the night, but I saw a great street singing performance at the Tsim Sha Tsui subway entrance, with a lot of young people watching the performance around the entrance. After listening to the music played by Chinese instruments, it seemed to be a different experience for my ears to hear the street pop singing by guitar. It was as if I had just returned from a vacation abroad and was back on the streets of Hong Kong all of a sudden, and it was a very magical feeling.
For the first time in my life, I heard so much music from different countries and styles in one city on the same day, and also felt the transmission of music culture from different countries, and experienced a wonderful sound "travel", which is a wonderful feeling! It was also the first time I knew that Chinese music could be used as a form of music therapy, and I was able to participate in the process of experiencing it first hand. It was very interesting and impressive.
