MUSI3041 Assignment#2 (Ye Zihao)

Sound Map

On October 7, I borrowed the Zoom H5 With Deity S-Mic from my school to record some beautiful sounds that deserve to be recorded and preserved. During the recording process, I also encountered many problems, such as not knowing how to use the device properly and assembling it too slowly. So, I learned the correct way to use it after asking my teacher. Later, and after continuous practice, I found the correct and efficient way to use the equipment.

1.Fa Ping Teng on Lantau Island (October 7, 9:30am)

In the morning of October 7, I went to Fa Ping Teng on Lantau Island. Fa Ping Teng means the top of a vase because there is a huge rock shaped like a vase on the eastern slope of Fa Ping Teng. It is located in the northeastern part of Lantau Island and is about 273 meters high. At the top of the hill, you can see not only the Tsing Ma Bridge and the wide ocean, but also the sunset over Sunny Bay in the afternoon. I recorded the sound of the waves gently lapping on the shore. It was so nice to listen to the sound of the sea while enjoying the sunset.

2.Beeping on the subway (October 7, 11:30 pm)

When I came back from Lantau Island, I took the subway. From the time I entered the subway station, the beeping on the subway station was always around my ears. Some of them reminded people to hold the handrails tightly while riding the escalator, and some reminded people to get on the train as soon as possible. Although these sounds played in my ears over and over again, which was annoying, without these reminders people might miss the train and fall down and get hurt while riding the escalator.

3.Hai Di Lao Hot Pot (October 7, 7:30 pm)

After leaving the subway station I went to Hai Di Lao Hot Pot, a very popular hot pot restaurant in China, famous for its good service, and Hai Di Lao also has a tradition that every time a customer has a birthday, Hai Di Lao will send a small birthday cake and the staff will dance while walking to your table with a stereo to play a birthday birthday song. When you see the funny dance of the staff and hear the cheerful song, the joyful atmosphere is contagious and everyone will be laughing.

4.Tung Lung Island (October 8, 9:00am)

In the morning of October 8, I went to the famous Tung Lung Island, also known as Tung Lung Chau, an island located in the east of Little Sai Wan. Here you can not only hike, camp and climb, but also experience bungee jumping. The following sound is the bungee jumping people scream, which can reflect the fear and excitement when bungee jumping.

5.The sound of the market hawking (October 8, 3:00 pm)

After returning from Tung Lung Island, I went back to the market near my house. As I was walking down the street, I was attracted by the sound of the market hawking. A woman in the audio was hawking in her very special voice, meaning that the store was having a sale and inviting passersby to come in and watch.

6.Motorcycle sound (October 8, 6:00 pm)

In Hong Kong, I found a lot of Fuel Motorcycles, which is not common in other parts of China. These motorcycles emit a lot of exhaust fumes and make a very loud sound, causing environmental pollution as well as sound pollution, sometimes these motorcycles pass by and you feel like your ears are going deaf.

7.Leiyin Cave in Seashore Park (October 9, 10:00am)

On the morning of October 9, I went to Leiyin Cave in Seashore Park. Leiyin Cave is located in Seashore Park in the southern district of Hong Kong Island, it is a sea cave, it is very dark inside, only a gap connected to one side of the sea, the surging waves will come in from time to time, Leiyin Cave at the entrance of the cave to hear the sound of the waves pounding like a line of thunder and lightning. In the recording, I stood on the seaside reef, holding up the recording equipment, the fierce sea wind and waves almost knocked me back.

8.Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens (October 9, 3:00 pm)

Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens is located in Central, Hong Kong. There are all kinds of animals and plants in this garden, such as white orchid trees, pine trees, flamingos and so on. The bird that made the most impact on me was a bird called Yellow-Casqued Hornbill, they make a very loud noise and I think they are the noisiest birds here.

9.Zhongshan Park (October 9, 7:30 pm)

Zhongshan Park is located in Xiyingpan, near my house, and I often go for a walk or a run. In the park, some people are picnicking on the grass, some are running, and I record the sounds of children playing in the park because I think children's voices are innocent and hearing them makes me forget my worries.

10.Small world in Disneyland (October 10, 9:30am)

Small world is an amusement facility in various Disneyland parks, and its famous theme music "It's a small world" is playing in Small world. After adaptation, this tune combines the musical characteristics of different regions, including Europe, the Middle East, Africa, America and other cultures. In Small world, when you go to different regions you will hear a different style of theme song. I think this different style of theme song not only can make people feel new, but also can let people understand the different culture of each region.
