From October 3 to October 5, I explored Wanchai(灣仔), where my house is located, and Causeway Bay(銅鑼灣)to make my sound map.
The leading equipment I used was:
1. Audio recorder: ZOOM H5, a detachable X/Y capsule (XYH-5) capable of handling 140 dB SPL;
2. Shotgun Microphone: Azden SGM-1000, a highly directional shotgun microphone with a comprehensive frequency response and low noise levels;
3. studio headphones: Beyerdynamic DT 880 PRO, a high-quality studio headphone with excellent analytical properties;
4. interface: Babyface Pro.
5.DAW:Apple Logic pro
6.Laptop: Apple MacBook Pro
While doing this assignment, I encountered many situations:
1.I had been to a basketball court and a hotel entrance, where I was refused to record and was driven away, although I had prayed to them to let me stay only for 2-3 minutes.
2. I have been in places where people would look at me wondrously when I was recording because I was holding up professional recording equipment.
3. When I recorded in overcrowded places, some passers-by immediately fell silent when they walked past me from the site. However, they would talk loudly with their friends before they met me.

The roof of Pao Woo Mansion 保和大廈天台
The second location was on the rooftop of my apartment. The recording time was 1:00 am, but there was still intense noise in the recording file, including the air conditioners, wind, etc.

The recording time is one hour after the closing of Wanchai Market when the sanitation staff is cleaning the street. The tires rubbing against the ground could be heard in my recording file.
Victoria park fountain 維多利亞公園噴泉
This is the only recording file that I needed to use Equalizer. The high end of the fountain sound was too harsh, so I did a low cut on the high frequency to balance the sound.
Wan Chai Park 湾仔公园
This sound recording was made on the basketball court in Wanchai Park, where you can hear the sounds of people shooting the ball and a child talking to the Filipino maids in English.
Bowrington Road Cooked Food Centre 鵝頸街市
This sound recording was made in an afternoon at Bowrington Road Cooked Food Centre. You can hear the sales talking to customers in Cantonese and the sound of the delivery trolley.
Wan Chai Station 湾仔站
The last one was recorded in front of the Wanchai MTR station.And in this recording, I mainly focused on recording the red street light's unique sound, the alarm sound. This sound is set up to help people with disabilities.
