June--Barcarolle by Tchaikovsky (Assignment 5)-YILING LIU

June--Barcarolle by Tchaikovsky

The June-Barcarolle I would like to introduce is of the compound trio type, with its key in g minor, its rhythm type in 4/4 time, and its tempo in Andante speed. This famous music, which has been loved by people, is an outstanding lyrical song. The smooth rhythm reflects the peaceful scene of people swinging in a light boat, and the melody carries a light sorrow like a Russian folk song.

                                               Famous pianist: Lang Lang playing

June is undoubtedly the representative of summer and this song June is the most famous of The Seasons. The work is famous for its beautiful melody and lyricism, and the poem depicts a summer night, people walking along the shore, feeling the kiss of the waves, and the swaying of the boat, showing a peaceful and stable picture. Tchaikovsky specifically expressed the feelings of the poetry in the melody of the music and used the minor key to show the color of the poetry. And the player should show the picture sense of the poem and the colorful nature of the melody, and grasp the singing nature of the work as a whole, to be coherent and not stick to the key.

Written in a trilogy, the work depicts the June night by river in Russia. The main tune is g minor, such as the andante of the song with a romantic style of singing nature.

The music begins with two bars of introduction, with the main chord in g minor, and a gentle accompaniment tone on the left hand to create the boat rippling on the water. Every melody of the right hand begins gently, making the music sound so leisurely and comfortable.

Section A (bar 3-12) are sections with two-bar expansion, and bar 3-6 are the core of the A section theme. In bar 5, the transition from the heavy genus to the main chord appears, which makes the melody wish to do but do it on second thought like the ripples of the water. The B phrase begins with the main material of the A phrase, Off-key movement towards descending B major occurs in bar 8, but soon returns to the main g minor.

In section B (bars 13-22), the melody begins in B major and returns to g minor in bar 18, eventually ending in section B on the dominant chord.

The middle part begins to become active, which is the true unfolding stage of emotion. The accompaniment part still maintains the fixed rhythm of Barcarolles characteristics, and the mood is gradually pushed to the climax, and the fixed rhythm also changes in tacit understanding. At this time, the bass adopts the dominant tone of G major continuing alternately.

The rhythm of the D section is changed from 4/4 to 3/4, and the rhythm is significantly accelerated. The motivation of the segment is constantly up and shifting, and the continuously diminished seven-chord arpeggios of the left hand seem to be choppy, which abruptly interrupts the development of the music.

music score 2: June-Barcarolle  bar 31-36

music score 3: June-Barcarolle  bar 46-51

Although the reproduction section (bars 84-99) is not significantly different from the beginning of the accompaniment, the polyphonic processing of the internal part is strengthened, so that the music has a deep feeling of emotion and scene fusion. The large-scale ending strengthens the embodiment of this intention, and eventually ends in successive arpeggios, like a heavy landscape painting.
